Well, it's been quite a while since I've posted pictures of Lake Mead, however I wanted to take a trip for a couple of reasons. First I wanted to get the cobwebs out of the boat after sitting all winter, and second, I wanted to see how the Lake was doing with the water level as low as it is. To my surprise the Lake was fine!! They have even taken advantage of the low water to repair all the launch ramps that we visited!! By the way, did I mention that Randy & Jessica went with me? Enjoy this day at the lake!!
We launched at Overton. This has been one of my favorite ramps. The last time I was here, I had to launch in the gravel and the end of the ramp was very narrow. As you can see, that is not a problem anymore!
This picture was taken in June of 2002. You can see the ramp doesn't look near as nice as it does today.
This was taken from my boat looking back at the ramp. It looks real nice, they have done a great job!! I am glad they took advantage of the low lake level to repair the launch ramps!
Once again this picture was taken in June of 2002. You can really see how the bottom of the ramp looked. There were big potholes, lots of gravel and mud. Basically a real mess!!
This is a shot of Stewart's Point. I have put arrows where in the past we have camped. The little outcropping by the arrow on the right is the edge of the area where we parked the motor homes. The pole near the arrow on the left is the pole that was just behind our camp spot.
The arrow in this picture points to the rock across from the cove we used dock our boats in.
This is the Echo Bay Ramp. Once again they have really fixed this up nicely! The only problem at Echo Bay is navigating out of there. You just have to pay attention where you are going. There is a lot more exposed rocks!!
This next shot was taken in April of 2002. Altough I took pictures from different spots, you can get an idea of how low the water level is today in the next few shots. By the way, the boat in the picture would be on dry land today!
The arrow in this picture points to an area we used to jump off of into the water. We would not jump from there today!!
We went as far as we could with the boat into Cathedral Cove. This is the area we used to anchor in. There was a lot of plant growth anywhere there used to be water!!
This picture was taken on our way out of Cathedral Cove.
Another picture taken on the way out.
A quick stop at Hoover Dam.
As wide as Callville Bay ramp was before they fixed it up, it too has benefited from the low water. Look how nice it is!!
Of course Callville Bay has some gorgeous houseboats docked. Look at this double-decker one!!
Another houseboat just wanting to be taken out of the dock!!
Also, we came across some parasailing. It's not often we see this at the lake!!
We came across this cove that was very nice for taking a break and going for a quick swim. When we got back home, I checked the temperature of the lake on the web, at it said it was 70 degrees. That had to be only the top two feet or so. I'll agree the water was very nice on the surface!! Did you notice how calm the water was? The wind was very light!! Only a few MPH!
Hope you enjoyed your visit here, as much as I enjoyed doing the research!!
